This week children have been allocated a new book to read on Bug Club. They should complete the ‘Bugs’ as they go. We will be looking at the children’s answers to see if they are responding to the text and understanding it.
Children have been set a 15 minute Garage session on Times Table Rock Stars. The battle is close and is anyone’s to win. It would be great if everyone took part, as every point counts.
This week children have revisited the Year 2 spelling rules of adding the suffixes -ed, -ing, -er and -est to root words.
When words end in ‘y’, the ‘y’ changes to an ‘I’ when the suffixes -er and -est are added.
Example: happy – happier, happiest
When a word ends in ‘e’, the ‘e’ at the end of the word is dropped when the suffixes -er, -ing and -ed are added.
Hike – hiked, hiking, hiker
For their spelling homework this week they should practise using the rules to add the suffixes -ing, -ed, -er, -est to these root words. Not every suffix can be added to every root word.
