It is becoming increasingly common for children and young people to communicate online using photos and videos. Many new social networks, apps and services have become popular with young people over the last few years because of the ease with which they allow users to create, edit and share their photos and videos.Sharing photos online can be an extremely positive and empowering experience for children and young people but it is important that they are aware of the potential risks that come with sharing images online; particularly images of themselves such as selfies.
Talking to your child about these risks, how they manage them and what to do if they are worried is key to supporting them to make positive choices and stay safe online. Our dedicated e-safety resources page for parents
has many factsheets, guides and videos that are free to download, to help you to be informed and involved in your child's online (and real world) safety.
