This term, children will be learning all about the continent of South America. We will delve into the depths of the Amazon rainforest, look at how early settlements began in South American countries and compare and contrast how people live across the world. For this theme children will learn about the Maya civilisation, features of the Amazon rainforest, how the Maya settled into the rainforest, features of Maya cities and the difference between the Maya and Anglo-Saxon houses.
In science we will be learning about materials and their properties and will use this information to build shelters that an explorer might need.
In art, we will looking in depth at specific artists such as David Hockney, Paula Rego and Fiona Rae and adopting their styles into our own artwork.
In computing, we will be looking at using data bases to collate and sort data and presenting data through graphs.
In writing, we will be focussing on creating an adventure story based on the book 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell, with the aim to include dialogue and show not tell in our stories.
