Master Chef: Food of the Gods

Master Chef: Food of the Gods

As part of this theme, children have been learning about the Ancient Greek gods, including Zeus, Hera, Aphrodite, Poseidon and Hades. They have "oohed and aahhed" when finding out about their different personalities and characteristics.

They've also taken part in a cooking workshop led by Eat Greek where they prepared, sampled and evaluated traditional Greek dishes like dolmadakia (vine leaves), orange cake and Greek salad.

Children have been enjoying listening to Greek myths and have now created their own God modelled on the Greek gods that they now know from our Talk for Writing approach.

In geography we have been looking at both modern day and Ancient Greece, including city states. In history we have been looking at the chronology of Ancient Greece and where it fits in on a timeline of world history.

Science will focus on ageing in mortals - as we know the Greek gods didn't age due to their consumption of nectar and ambrosia!

We enjoyed turning our classrooms into Greek tavernas as part of our parent workshops this term.

In Art, we have taken time to look at the buildings that the Ancient Greeks lived in and used this knowledge to design our own. This was then brought to life using clay, where we built and painted our buildings to create our very own Ancient Greek city state.

Following on from our Greek Myths, we looked in detail at the use of dialogue and how we could incorporate this tool into our own writing.

Kind regards,

The Year 5 Team
