Throughout the second half of the Spring Term, Year 3 learnt all about our Prehistoric Ancestors in our theme - 'Meet the Ancestors'.
We found out all about how people thousands of years ago lived their lives and used time lines to explore just how long the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age period lasted.
To help us gain an even deeper understanding of these incredible early people we went on a visit to Bishops Wood. Whilst we were there we experienced migration across landmasses (we had to pack up our camp, create a make-shift carrying device for all our belongings and then transport it). We also practised fire lighting, hunting and gathering and home making using wattle and daub. We finished the day cave painting with charcoal and chalk - just like real Stone Age people.
In school we used natural pigments to create cave paintings. We drew using charcoal and chalk and experimented with other natural pigments that we collected from the forest as well as using spices such as turmeric and paprika. We then created our own cave walls using sand and grains to give us a textured surface. It was great fun.
