Our Second Theme - 'Ivan's Land'

When we returned from half term, we discovered that our classroom had been transformed into a 'Winter Wonderland'. There were snowy footprints everywhere and we had been left a number of clues. We asked lots of questions about the clues and the items and tried to work out why they had been left for us. We then found a book called 'Ice Palace' by Robert Swindells, which we began to read eagerly. We are very excited to find out what happens to the main character whose name is Ivan.

Science - Forces

Starjik is the Villain in 'Ice Palace' - he rides a sled through the forest. We decided to find out how to make his sled either travel faster or slow him down. To do this we investigated friction during our Science lessons.

We also discovered that Ivan is the son of a Blacksmith and had been playing with metals and magnets. I our Science lessons we decided to find out more.

Art - Abstract Sculptures

Ivan lives in a Pine wood forest so our art work this term has been inspired by the trees. We looked at different techniques for joining card - some of them didn't use glue or sellotape! We then looked at abstract sculptures of Christmas trees from around the world before testing our ideas on a mini tree model. Once we were happy with our designs we then worked in pairs to create a much larger models.
