The Lyppard Grange Primary School Empowering children to be secure, engaged and equipped for life.

Friday 24th November

This week we have been learning more about the Ancient Greek polis of Athens. We know more about houses and accommodation for visitors in Ancient Greece. We've been creating our own heroes, monsters and story plots in preparation for writing our own Greek myths over the coming weeks.

In maths, we've been adding and subtracting fractions with increasing difficulty.

Reading - Please aim to read for 20 minutes a day (at least) and make a note of your reading by dating it with a comment in your reading journal.

TTRS - It's been another week of TTRS competition. We have some clear class champions who are dedicated to using TTRS daily and we're finding that this is helping children's table knowledge, especially when we need to use our times tables knowledge in class work when converting fractions etc. However, it is also clear that not all children are using TTRS regularly enough so please do aim to use it over the weekend and during the week to earn coins for yourself and your class. Children should practise their allocated times tables on TTRock Stars for at least 30 minutes daily to help them improve their fluency ready for their maths challenge. Congratulations again to 5FT for their impressive score and third win of this half term.  A new tournament will start on Friday at 4pm and finish on Thursday 30th November at 7pm.

Maths - Please find attached your maths homework to do with adding fractions.

KIRF - Do keep practising your knowledge of multiples, factors, common multiples and common factors using the KIRF sheet we uploaded at the start of this half term on the homework page. It is important for children to know the difference between each of these terms and how to identify these numbers correctly.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

The Year 5 team.
