Focus Activity - Writing

Dr Rose was told by Dr Western that the African Conservation Centre will be able to give her more information about the chalice. The Maasai tribe that run the centre have told her that they really need some help with the animals before they can give her any more information.

They have told her to feed the carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. She has sent us photographs of the animals and asked if we can help her sort them into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Have a go at sorting the animals to help Dr Rose know what food to feed each animal.

Peg Activity - Writing

Label one of the animals and describe what you can see.

Lolly Activity - Maths

Use tens and ones to help Dr Rose work out how much food each of the animals got. You can use a tens and ones place value chart, the part whole model, drawings or concrete resources such as lego to show your answers.

Focus Activity - Phonics

During the morning briefing the children will flick through previously taught digraphs, trigraphs and tricky words.

Activity – In Year 1 we learn that there are four alternative graphemes for the phoneme ‘or’. Have a go at reading the phoneme spotter and picking out all the words with the ‘or’ sound in. Can you sort them into ‘or’, ‘aw’, ‘au’ and ‘ore’?

Tricky word

We are going to have a go at practising some of our tricky words. We are going to give you a word a day to practise. Today your tricky word is where.

Choose one of the options, or anything you can find at home, and write the tricky word for today using that resource. See how many times you can write the word in a minute! Then choose 3 more resources and rewrite where using;

  1. Rainbow writing
  2. Sand, flour, rice
  3. Paint
  4. Water
  5. Mud
  6. Chalk
  7. Glitter

Additional Activities

Dance

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn_qirpdBag The Lion King opening scene

Watch the opening scene of the Lion King. Look at all the different animals and they way that they move. There are meercats, antelopes, giraffes, ants, rhinos, zebras, ostriches, elephants, gazelles, cheetahs, lions, monkeys , baboons ,warthogs and all kinds of birds. Choose your favourite animal and create a motif (movement phrase) for that animal.

Think about how your animal travels and moves. Does it:

  • run, walk or crawl
  • jump, hop or leap
  • turn, spin or roll
  • is it graceful or heavy
  • fast or slow

Perform your motif to the music ‘Circle Of Life’ that is playing in the opening scene. If you want to you could create motifs for different animals and then join them together to create a dance.

We would absolutely love to see some short videos or pictures of your animal motifs/ dances!
