Green Flag Award with Distinction - August 2022

In August we were awarded the Green Flag!  This is what the assessors had to say about our application:

Congratulations!!!

Fantastic work!

We are very pleased to tell you that you and your Eco-Committee at Lyppard Grange Primary School have been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag.

We reviewed your application and noted the following:

We love your targeted and pragmatic approach to appointing Eco-Committee members based on their enthusiasm, ideas and knowledge! It’s wonderful to read how your pupils have defined roles and responsibilities within your Eco-Committee. It’s very reflective of professional environments and great experience for later life.

It was great to read how your Environmental Review provided the basis for the projects in your Action Plan, highlighting those areas where the greatest improvement and impact could be made. Sharing your findings through peer feedback and assemblies shows an inclusive approach that will help to maximise reach and encourage wider interest and participation. Your Eco-Committee has done a great job of writing your clear and incisive Action Plan. Your targets are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound) and roles and accountability for actions are outlined in detail. This is important as it helps to achieve progress and empower your Eco-Committee.

We’re impressed by how broadly and creatively your environmental topics have been embedded into the curriculum. We loved how you used persuasive writing as a vehicle of your environmental education provision. This is a great example of how we can educate and empower our young people to develop brilliant communication skills that they can build on and apply beyond the school gates.

You've clearly looked externally and engaged with myriad campaigns and community-based initiatives. Your litter picks, in particular, have engaged and inspired your pupils and are a great example of how you have used the Eco-Schools programme to engender a sense of ownership and collective responsibility for the environment in your young eco-citizens.

We love your powerful, creative and beautifully performed Eco-Rap! It embodies all the fantastic work you have done and your values as a school. These are actions that all staff and pupils can get behind, and are a reminder of how, collectively, those small changes can have a big positive impact!

We are so impressed by your achievements this year, and your parent quotes attest to how successfully you have educated and empowered your students to carry the eco-message beyond the school gates into their homes and communities. We have no doubt that the far-reaching legacy and benefits of your Eco-Schools initiatives – on your school grounds, in particular – must be an immense source of pride for you all at Lyppard Grange. Congratulations on earning your Green Flag with Distinction accreditation!

The Green Flag is now proudly flying next to Olivia's Garden.
