The safest way to view it is to use a pinhole or small mirror to project the image of the eclipsed sun safely on a wall or ceiling. Never look directly at the sun unless you have a proper solar filter. Do not use ordinary sunglasses, photographic film, CDs or mylar packaging, as none of these filter out the infrared rays that cause eye damage.
