  • Question time at Lyppard Grange

    Tue 28 Jun 2016

    It’s been quite a week in politics and no less so for the children at Lyppard Grange as our Y6 children posed their questions to both the Mayor of Worcester, Paul Denham, and Member of Parliament for the Worcester constituency, Robin Walker, this week. As you can imagine, in light of recent news, the children had a lot of questions they wanted answers to, and were not backwards in coming forwards to find out all that they wanted to know. Their questions included “What will happen now that we’re leaving the EU?”, “Now that we’ve left will Turkey be allowed to join?”, “Will be still be called the United Kingdom now that Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to stay in?”, “Will we still be allowed to play in the Euros?”, “Did the Royal Family get to vote?”, “What made you want to be a Member of Parliament?”, “Are M.P.s well paid?” and “What do you like most about your job?”

    The children were, as always, fantastic ambassadors for the school and showed us all just how mature their thinking has become as they near the end of their primary school years. This is what Paul Denham and Robin Walker had to say about them on their blog and twitter feed respectively;

    “One of the pleasures of being Mayor is hosting school visits to the Guildhall and there were two this week. German students from our twin city of Kleve came first, on an exchange with Worcester Royal Grammar School. Next, Spanish children called, accompanied by their hosts from Lyppard Grange Primary School. Young people appreciate our magnificent Guildhall, marvelling at its history, the stunning Assembly Room and the prison cells. They ask interesting questions – one asked where in the building my bedroom was!”  http://mayor.worcester.gov.uk/

  • “Ola” and “Adios”

    Tue 28 Jun 2016
    It was a pleasure to play host to our friends from Huesca in Spain as children and staff from our partner school, San Vicente, visited us this week. Monday was spent in school with the Spanish children working alongside our pupils in classes throughout the school to get a taste of education in Britain, then Tuesday was a time to have fun with our Year 6 pupils on a day out at West Midlands Safari Park. With friendships formed they set out together again on Wednesday, this time venturing into Worcester city centre to undertake a treasure hunt by which they discovered a world of historical secrets that are always there but often unnoticed! Their visit ended with a football and rounders tournament at school followed by a BBQ before farewells were shared. Though brief the visit, friendships were forged but most importantly memories made which will last a lifetime.
  • Under the sea…

    Tue 28 Jun 2016

    On Friday 17th June, Year 1 embarked on a journey to Birmingham to find out about aquatic animals at the Sealife Centre, learning about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We were greeted by an informative tour guide who talked to us as we ventured round the centre explaining different aspects of the animals lives, whether that be what they ate or who they weren’t allowed to be in an enclosure with!  We were then allowed to explore the Sealife Centre freely where the children were able to ask lots of questions and admire their favourite sea creatures close-up!  A great day was had by all!

  • The Big Sing - after the event

    Fri 17 Jun 2016
    No sooner did the Y3/4 children return from their half term break than off they travelled by coach to Worcester Arena to participate in ‘The Big Sing’ event alongside 1,000 other children, all from local primary schools. It was a fun-packed hour and a half lead by Ula Weber, a renowned singing leader, accompanied by a live band. Not only did the children perform and perfect the songs they had been learning at school to sing as a mass choir, they also took part in a large number of fun singing games involving funny dances whilst teaching them how to alter the tempo and pitch of their voice. A group of ‘Very Important People’ then arrived to hear the children perform ‘Sing’ in honour of the Queen’s 90th birthday. It was a super morning which was lots of fun but at the same time taught the children a lot about singing.
