  • Watch out for the Solar Eclipse!

    Thu 19 Mar 2015
Don't forget to look out for the partial solar eclipse on Friday 20th March at around 09:30 am.  Visit http://www.space.com/28813-total-solar-eclipse-north-atlantic-march20.html for more information.  Always remember that partial eclipses like this one must be viewed with extreme caution. The safest way to view it is to use a pinhole or small mirror to project the image of the eclipsed sun safely on a wall or ceiling. Never look directly at the sun unless you have a proper solar filter. Do not use ordinary sunglasses, photographic film, CDs or mylar packaging, as none of these filter out the infrared rays that cause eye damage.

Check out this website for an easy-to-follow video on how to make a pinhole camera box and advice against trying to take selfies during an eclipse ... or this website for instructions on how to make a quick pinhole camera from an empty Pringles crisps tube!
