  • Building Work Update 24th February ...

  • Year 5/6 Battle of Bosworth Re-Enactment

    Mon 24 Feb 2014

On 24th January we had a tremendous battle on the school field! Before you panic, it was only a recreation of the Battle of Bosworth. Henry Tudor was played by some of our superb actors and was victorious against Richard III who was overthrown in a muddy, violent battle. Represented amongst the troops were standard bearers, archers, swordsmen and horsemen who fought bravely and courageously.

We had been learning in our PE lessons how to safely create a battle using stage combat. As well as this, we designed and created a variety of props which included glimmering swords, colourful standards, protective shields and vicious crossbows.

Fortunately, they didn’t get too muddy, unlike many children whose historical figure they were acting, died and fell to the swamp-like field!

The whole of Year 5 and 6 took part and enjoyed the battle tremendously! It really helped to make us understand what the Battle of Bosworth was all about, how the people felt and why the Tudor period started.

  • Half Term Building Update ...

    Fri 14 Feb 2014

We enter a new and exciting phase of the building works over half term which again necessitates us making some changes to the regular routines of the school day. Please take the time to share these with the children over the half term break.

    · To further ensure the safety of the children in the playground a second inner fence is being erected. This forms a wider barrier between the work site and the children’s play area but means our playground space again reduces in size. Our plans to use the field as additional play space have also been scuppered by the recent wet weather. In order for playtimes to  continue to be a pleasurable experience for the children we have now sectioned them into four smaller groups so that there are never more than 90 children using the outdoor space at one time—EYFS, Y1/2, Y3/4 and Y5/6 will each now have separate playtimes in the morning, afternoon and during lunchtime. No break time is being lost, just moved!

    · Work also begins on the school hall which means some of the EYFS outdoor classroom will be screened off and a temporary partition wall is being erected approximately 1 metre in from the current external hall wall. There will no longer be an external entrance into the hall. A new fire evacuation plan has been written to accommodate this change and we will inform you as soon as possible as to your access route into the hall.

    · Due to these further restrictions on our outdoor space it is vital that everyone adhere to the one-way system. It is in place to avoid collisions and ensure the smoothest and most efficient beginning and end of day routines. Again we ask for your support in ensuring everyone follows this at all times.

  • Year 1/2 Explorer Dome

    Fri 14 Feb 2014

    Help! Our world’s in crisis

On Thursday, Year 1/2 enjoyed an exciting morning exploring different environments around the world. An Explorer Dome came into school to take the children on an adventure into the depths of the rainforest, the desert and the icy surroundings of the Antarctic.

We entered the dome via a tunnel and once inside,  images were projected onto the walls to bring each environment to life.

First they took us on a journey into the rainforest where we experienced what it would be like to live in this environment, including thunder, lightening, rain and the sounds of the rainforest.  Next we went to the desert where we saw the animals that live there and the constellations of the night sky.

Finally we took a journey to the Antarctic where we dressed up in the clothes that we would need to survive in this area. We were then engulfed in a cloud of dry ice to experience the chill of the Antarctic.

The Children had a fantastic time and learnt a lot!

  • Year 3/4 Music Festival

    Fri 14 Feb 2014

On Tuesday this week the Y3/4 pupils of Lyppard Grange Primary School put their creative skills to good use when they collaborated with 3 local high school bands from Nunnery Wood, Tudor Grange and Bishop Perowne.

At the festival 3 high school bands performed, including beat boxing, back flips and a soul band.

The Y3/4 pupils also performed 2 outstanding songs as part of their festival.  There were also refreshments during the interval so people didn’t go hungry.  Parents were amazed with the children’s stunning show.  One of the bands even tweeted how brilliant the festival was!!!

To end the music festival some Y3/4 pupils did some dancing from different eras such as the 50’s, 60’s 70’s and street dance.

  • Tudor Times

    Fri 07 Feb 2014
Year 5/6 visited Tudor World in Stratford last Friday. It was a day packed with activity and facts. On their return the children have written letters to William Shakespeare - here are some extracts from their work.

    “Dear Sir William Shakespeare,
I am writing to you about the fantastic trip around Stratford-on-Avon that our class went on on Friday 31st January. It was very informative to find out about where you grew up, what your father did for a living—he made gloves—and important buildings in your life...” Jordash

    “Dear William Shakespeare,
I am writing to you regarding our school trip. On Friday 31st January my class and I were thankful to you for returning from the dead just for this special occasion... The highlights of my day were seeing my friend beheaded (I’m glad it wasn’t me!) and when you showed us where you lived in Stratford.” Neil

“My favourite experience, even though the weather was terrible, was your tour because it was so meaningful. The stories about your life were touching; how your son had died when you were gone and how you gave your daughters away. The stories were concise and detailed; some were even spine-chilling! It was amazing seeing where you grew up and where you went when you had gotten older. It was truly awesome and I would love to do it again...” Bekah
