    Children arrived safely at The Pioneer Centre yesterday and settled in. All enjoyed the first day's activities. All ate well - roast chicken (or veggie alternative).  All in bed and asleep by 9:30pm and all quiet until 7:00am.  Breakfast at 8:30am and onto High Ropes.

    Another great activity-packed day; lots of firsts achieved by the children and lots of proud moments. All have eaten well - sausages & hash browns for breakfast, pizza & garlic bread for lunch and fish & chips for tea. We probably shouldn't mention the muffins and chocolate fudge cake.  Heading out to a camp fire now.

    Our Year 5 pupils had a great day out on Thursday 2nd March when they visited the National Space Centre in Leicester as part of their 'Out of this world' theme. It was a very early start, with everyone departing school at 8am, but this did not dampen spirits and a coach full of lively children set off! Whilst at the Space Centre the children had plenty of time to investigate the wide variety of exhibitions about space, where they learned how to be an astronaut and gained a wealth of knowledge about planets, stars and much more besides. One of the highlights of the day was the workshop where groups of children competed against each other to build the best rocket on a budget. The children then launched their rockets using air pressure to see who could win the most points by aiming at a target. It was an action-packed day but, when questioned on the way home about their favourite part, it was definitely the 4D planetarium experience that was the overwhelming favourite! A great day was had by all who attended and lots of great ideas were collected for their upcoming space projects. Photos of their visit can be found on pages 3 and 4 of Newsletter 7 (wc 13th March)
  • RULE THE SKOOL— TWO WEEKS TO GO!!!

    Are you ready? On Friday 24th March every child is invited to come to school dressed as a teacher and in return every member of staff will dress in school uniform. Our Y6 children will then pair up with a member of staff to become a ‘mini-me’ and ‘Rule the Skool’ for the day. They will lead assemblies, manage playtimes, serve lunch, teach some lessons and hold some meetings among other things. This year we have set up an online giving page rather than asking for cash donations so please visit https://my.rednoseday.com/sponsor/lyppardgrange3238 to sponsor us. Our initial target is £300 and as we have 377 children in school it would be great if we could beat this. Mrs Thorp and Mr Jackson have started the totaliser; please join them in sponsoring the day. The children will be keeping an eye on the total raised and reading your messages of support in assemblies over the next two weeks. Please note that there will be no Congratulations assemblies on Friday 24th March. There will also be no Forest School for our EYFS children on this day. 
  • Important Information for Payment of Den Invoices

    Invoices for the second half of the Spring term were sent home yesterday and, as always, request that payment is due within 5 days.  The end of the current financial year for the local authority is fast approaching  and coupled with that, Worcestershire County Council are changing the financial system which we are all using.  As this has major implications for us all with processing financial transactions, we would be very grateful if parents/guardians could ensure that payment is made and all remittance slips returned by Monday 6th March at the very latest.  Thank you.
  • Proposed Conversion to Academy Status

    he Governing Body of Lyppard Grange Primary School has applied for and been granted an Academy Order under the Academies Act 2010 to become an academy and is proposing to create and join The Villages’ Multi Academy Trust. In accordance with the requirements of the Academies Act 2010, the Governing Body is consulting on whether the school’s academy conversion should take place. Further information about what becoming an academy means, and how to comment on the proposals, is set out in our new 'Consultation' section and information was sent home by letter on 8th February (attached below).

    As well as inviting written responses to the proposals, parents are invited to a ‘drop-in’ session to be held from 4.00pm to 7.00pm at school on Wednesday 1st March 2017. Members of the Governing Body and the Head teacher will be available to hear your comments. We are also holding meetings with our staff.

    The closing date for representations to be made is 24th March 2017.

  • Safer Internet Day (SID) 2017

    Safer Internet Day 2017 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 7th February. This year’s theme is ‘Be the change: Unite for a better internet’. This theme has been chosen as an empowering message to all internet users and young people to use the internet positively and safely, with consideration and respect for others.
     
    The sub-theme for the UK is ‘The Power of Image’, focusing on the ways that we use images and videos online to communicate and share messages, to entertain and to learn.

    It is becoming increasingly common for children and young people to communicate online using photos and videos. Many new social networks, apps and services have become popular with young people over the last few years because of the ease with which they allow users to create, edit and share their photos and videos.Sharing photos online can be an extremely positive and empowering experience for children and young people but it is important that they are aware of the potential risks that come with sharing images online; particularly images of themselves such as selfies.
     
    Talking to your child about these risks, how they manage them and what to do if they are worried is key to supporting them to make positive choices and stay safe online. Our dedicated e-safety resources page for parents has many factsheets, guides and videos that are free to download, to help you to be informed and involved in your child's online (and real world) safety.
