In their first few weeks in Year 1, the Turtles and Dolphins have settled in brilliantly. They have adapted to new routines, but have also remembered all of the rules and routines from Crocodiles and Elephants. They have enjoyed completing their peg and lolly activities to support them in becoming more independent learners.
When the children first arrived at school a magical tree appeared in the role play area. Since then, we have had a visit from Silky the fairy who has set us lots of new challenges. The children have been really excited and full of enthusiasm, coming in everyday to see what new challenges await them.
In art, the children have been learning about the work of artist Clarice Cliff and created their own unique pieces inspired by her vibrant style. They explored primary and secondary colours, painting bold circles onto paper plates. Once dry, they used straws to blow paint across the surface, creating imaginative tree designs on top of their colourful backgrounds. The children have also explored different types of lines (vertical, horizontal, cross-hatched, wavy, and diagonal). They have used these lines to create collaborative artwork using a variety of media.
In geography, the children have been introduced to maps of the UK and have been learning to locate Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales.
The children have also made a great start at Forest School. We have explored the woodland by spotting signs of Autumn and collecting magic left by our magical tree. We then had the opportunity to make magic wands. We all had lots of fun.
Here are a few photos of what we have been getting up to!
