Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

We are really looking forward to this year and we have lots of exciting themes, lessons and activities coming up.

On this page you will find lots of useful information about everything we are covering across the year. There will be photos of visits, information about SATs and anything else we feel is important. If you have any questions at any point, feel free to ask one of the adults who work in the year group.

Autumn Term Theme 1

We have kicked the year off by going back in time to the 1940s and are learning all about World War 2 as part of our Lest We Forget theme. Children have been given a fictional character and are loving following their journey through the war each week and discovering how each person’s life has been impacted by the war. We will be working through the war chronologically, looking at key events of the war and children are being given lots of opportunities to ask questions and all discussions are being handled sensitively.

Autumn Term Theme 2

Following on from our Lest We Forget theme, we ventured down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland! We joined Alice and met lots of the crazy characters she encountered on her journey through that strange land, including the Mat Hatter, the White Rabbit and of course, the Queen of Hearts. We then used this as inspiration to write our own Wonderland stories, taking our own characters into the same world. As you know, Lewis Carroll didn’t just write books but poetry as well and we explored his poem, the Jabberwocky. After getting our head around some of the strange new words he used, we then spent time learning the poem and preparing it for performance – we hope you enjoy watching them!
