Medium Term - Small Steps Planning (White Rose)
Our Mathematics curriculum from Years 1 to 6 follows the small steps planning model taken from White Rose, these are outlined below.
Early Years use Mastery Maths to plan their small steps teaching and also use supplementary materials where appropriate.
Whilst we endeavour to move through the themes set out in these documents as they are designed, our planning is also responsive to the needs of the children. This means that there will be times when some themes take longer, due to the fact that the children need more time to become fluent and other themes are moved around to allow greater impact.
KIRFs (Key Instant Recall Facts)
To support the Mathematics Curriculum and reduce cognitive load children in Years 1 to 6 are asked to work on a KIRF each half term.
These KIRFs are, where possible, linked to the mathematical themes being taught using the White Rose Small Steps medium term planning or they support the acquisition of times tables in support of the MTC in Year 4.
