At the beginning of this term Year 5 were contacted by Eat Greek restaurant, who have set them a challenge. Children have been asked to create a dish of Greek food that represents a Greek god or goddess. Children have been busy researching Greek gods and goddesses so that they can base their dishes on their chosen god or goddess’ unique characteristics. To help the children design their dishes Eat Greek came into school on Friday 6th January. They brought with them food for the children to taste and some dishes for them to make. Children then had the opportunity to make their own Greek salad and the dish dolmadakia (vine leaves stuffed with rice). They had a selection of Greek food to taste including feta cheese, olives, pita bread, salad, freshly made tzatziki and a delicious dessert called portokalopita (orange pie). The children had a great time making and tasting Greek food and now have lots of inspiration for creating their own delectable dishes.
