Happy half term holidays!
It has been a very busy start to the summer term. Both classes have worked hard to produce non-chronological reports about different biomes in South America. Their geographical knowledge and vocabulary about the human and physical features of different countries in South America and about rainforest and desert biomes has impressed us.
In maths, their decimal, angles, shape and calculation knowledge has continued to improve too.
In history, their knowledge of the Maya has improved and they have compared the Viking and Maya civilisations.
In art, we have begun to look at Maya masks.
In P.E. children have improved their teamwork, communication, fielding and batting skills.
Homework
Writing - For homework this week, we would like you to improve given sentences by adding detail to them. All the details that you need can be found in the attached document. When we come back after half term, we will be looking at narratives with a focus on suspense writing.
Maths - TTRS should be used every week by children. They need to complete 10 minutes of garage before accessing any other activities. Those children who are using TTRS are continuously doing better in their maths challenges because it is improving their fluency and times table knowledge. Please encourage your child to use this resource.
Reading - Please encourage your children to read for at least 20 minutes daily. Perhaps visit the library or encourage children to use our Year 5/6 library as well as the reading spine books. Children must write down the page they have read to with the date in their reading journal.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a restful half term.
The Year 5 Team.
