Wednesday

Focus activity - Forest school

This week we would like you to go into your garden or go for a walk with a grown up.  Look around you, draw and label all the places you think you may find mini beasts. Have a look at the example attached.

Peg activity - Writing

Look at the pdf of The Great Kapok Tree. Choose a page to read and see what words, language and meanings you can pick out from it.

  • Are there any interesting adjectives and verbs?
  • Are there any words that you don't understand?
  • How do the words used make you feel?

As a challenge you could write your own sentence including some of the interesting words you have picked out.

Lolly activity - Maths

Have a go at these addition and subtraction questions. You can use any of the methods we have already learned to solve them such as; counting on, using a number line or hundred square or using concrete objects to help you.

Focus activity - Phonics

During the morning briefing the children will flick through the previously taught digraphs, trigraphs and tricky words.

Letter ladders

In this game a grown up reads the word and the children find the correct phonemes and make the word. For example, if I said the word ‘bear’ they would find the ‘b', 'e', ‘a’ and 'r' and put them in the correct order to make the word.

To be able to do this at home with your child we would like an adult to read the word, your child should then be able to hear the sounds and either write the word down or use the a-z phoneme cards to find the sounds they need to use. Please make sure your child knows what the word means, I have attached a sheet with the words in context to support as you are playing the game with your child.

bear – bare – hare – hair – stair – stare – dare – care – scare – spare – pair – pear – bear

Additional activities

Listen to the rainforest sounds. What can you hear? Have a go at recreating some of the music with the rainmaker you have made.
