Maths

Today we will be looking at how to convert metres to centimetres and vice versa.  Watch the video 'Maths Length Wednesday' on the Video Resource Centre.  There are teaching notes to accompany the video.  You might want to listen to the mm, cm, m and km rhyme too.  Then choose an appropriate task

There is a link below to an activity on Espresso.

Whole Class Reading

On Monday you either read or listened to the first half of section 5 of Ice Palace. Today we are going to continue to read and will read the second half of Part 5 of the Ice Palace.

As it is the first read through this is the Reading for Meaning and Pleasure part of whole class reading.

This is quite a long section of the story - so pausing for each question you have might take some time, so instead we have adapted what we would like you to do.

You can choose to:

*read the section yourself - second half today.

*or you can listen to me reading it to you.

Your tasks during reading are to concentrate upon what is happening, as you will need to be able to recall the events for your tasks later in the week and you must also make a note of any words you are unsure of, so that you can use your skills of using a dictionary to find out what they mean.

Enjoy.

Today you will need to start reading where you left off on Wednesday.

Number Magic
Theme Character Description

Today you will continue to work on editing the character description.

If you chose option 1 then you will be working on paragraph 3 and 4 today - which you will edit and then write up in neat.

If you chose option 2 then you need to start to publish your work - write up in neat the second draft of the description - this needs to be done using your best handwriting or typing it up onto word or something similar - work on the first 2 and half paragraphs today.

Make sure that whichever option you chose the work is of the highest quality.

Spelling - Prefixes

Today we are continuing our work on the prefix 'inter' there are two tasks for you to complete that are explained in the teaching notes.

Design and Technology - Designing a scene from the Ice Palace

Hopefully you have managed to have a go at making a moving picture now.  This week we will be designing a scene from the Ice Palace.  You need to think about which part of the story you would like to create the scene of.  Perhaps Ivan hanging from the branch of a tree with wolves moving beneath him.  Once you have the scene in mind you need to think about which part(s) of the scene you want to move and which levers and linkages you will need to make that happen then:

1.  You should roughly sketch your scene.

2. Label the parts you would like to move, noting the types of levers and linkages that you will need.

Think about the background of your scene, will it be set in the dark forest, pinewood village or Ice Palace etc.  You don't need to draw the back ground in great detail as this is just your design not your final piece.

Have a look at my design plan and actual moving picture.  Remember you are JUST designing you picture today, NOT making it.

Below are links to the levers and linkages video and the Technology Student.com website where you can explore some more levers and linkages.
