Focus Activity - Maths
This week the children have been using their knowledge of number bonds to 10 to help them work out number bonds to 20. For example using 3 + 7 = 10 and relating that information to work out a number bond to 20, 3 + 17 = 20.
In school we will be putting 10 knights in the dungeon, rolling a die and releasing that many number of knights. For example if the die lands on a 6, you would take 6 knights to safety. They children can use any resource they would like to work out what number goes with 6 to make 10. They can count on their fingers, use a number line or anything they can count with! Then check the remaining knights in the dungeon to see if they are right. Remember to write down the number bond number sentence for example: 6 + 4 = 10.
Once they have done this then put 20 knights in the dungeon, take the same number of knights out to safety and then see if they can use the number bond to 10 knowledge to work out how many are still in the dungeon. Remember to write down the number sentence. How many number sentences can you write for the same number bond? E.G. 6+4=10. 4+6=10. 10=6+4, 10=4+6, 10-4=6 etc!
Challenge
If you want to challenge yourself, have a look at the cards attached. See if you can spot the mistakes and work out what is the same and what is different? Make sure you can explain why.
Peg Activity - Writing
Please have a look at the image of a banquet table below and describe what you can see. Remember to use adjectives and conjunctions within your writing.
Lolly Activity - Maths
Use your knowledge of one more and one less to help the knight get across the battlements.
Phonics - Focus Activity
During the morning briefing the children will flick through the previously taught digraphs, trigraphs and tricky words. For today's phonics activity have a go at sounding out what you think the picture is, then write the word using the 'does it look right?' strategy. Then write the one you think is correct.
