The circulatory system
A couple of weeks ago we did our much-anticipated heart dissection as part of our learning about the circulatory system. Throughout the week, the children learned about this essential process by making ‘blood’, watching a video about the journey of a red blood cell and trying to imagine what a red blood cell might say as it is moving around the circulatory system! They then used all of this knowledge when carrying out their heart dissections and were able to identify the key parts of the heart, including the atria, ventricles and main veins and arteries. Following this, the children wrote some amazing explanations as red blood cells, demonstrating their understanding of the process. They approached the whole heart dissection activity so sensibly, knowing how much they wanted to participate and having amazing in-depth discussions about what they were seeing. Below are some photos showing just how engaged they were!
