Year 5 have had a busy week with Sports Day on Wednesday and our visit to NWHS yesterday for a Murder Mystery Day. The children had great fun trying to find out who the murderer was by identifying finger and footprints that were found at the scene of the crime. They used chromatography to work out which suspect's pen had been used to write a threatening letter, a microscope to look at a thread of material and a Bunson burner to discover which suspect had left mud at the scene. Children were curious, engaged and sensible, and we were very proud of them!
Reading: Children should be reading for at least 20 minutes a day and recording their reading activity in their reading journals. If you haven't read all of the books in the Year 5 reading spine yet, then make sure you pick one this week as there are only 4 more weeks left to read them.
Maths Challenge: Although the majority of children are now on the grid and therefore know all of their multiplication tables, they should still be focussing on the speed of their recall. TTRock Stars is excellent for developing an instant recall of multiplication tables and children should be practising their allocated tables for at least 10 minutes on garage.
Maths homework: Recently, children have been learning about negative numbers. To consolidate their knowledge they should complete at least one of the challenges below. Homework should be handed in by Wednesday 26th June.
