Last term we had a fantastic day living the life of an Ancient Egyptian. The children dressed up in a variety of costumes which resulted in our classrooms being full of cats, the River Nile, Mummies, hieroglyphics and many more. The children took part in a whole range of activities to help them understand more about life as an Ancient Egyptian. The activities included creating "Shabtis" (miniature statues of servants which the Pharaohs took into their tombs to attend to their needs in the afterlife); "Canopic Jars" (which were used to store the organs of the mummified Pharaoh) and a "Cartouche" with their name written in hieroglyphics. The children also learnt about mummification using a tomato! The day finished with a "Weighing of the Heart Ceremony" and the children were pleased to discover that their Pharaoh was going to the afterlife!
