As a culmination of our theme Ingenious Inventions and Curious Creations, in October Year 2 visited the Mechanics, Art and Design (MAD) Museum in Stratford-upon-Avon. The children were able to look at a variety of exciting mechanisms that ranged from a treasure chest with a hand that slowly poked out, to huge metal marble runs with flashing lights. The children were able to create their own marble runs by moving magnetic pieces into different places. There was a variety of problem solving games for them to tackle and several exhibits with special effects. Following our visit, we received an email from the museum expressing how impressed they had been with the children’s behaviour and curiosity during the visit. On our return to school children made cam automatons, like those they had seen at the museum. Well done Year 2!
