Our Year 5 pupils had a great day out on Thursday 2nd March when they visited the National Space Centre in Leicester as part of their 'Out of this world' theme. It was a very early start, with everyone departing school at 8am, but this did not dampen spirits and a coach full of lively children set off! Whilst at the Space Centre the children had plenty of time to investigate the wide variety of exhibitions about space, where they learned how to be an astronaut and gained a wealth of knowledge about planets, stars and much more besides. One of the highlights of the day was the workshop where groups of children competed against each other to build the best rocket on a budget. The children then launched their rockets using air pressure to see who could win the most points by aiming at a target. It was an action-packed day but, when questioned on the way home about their favourite part, it was definitely the 4D planetarium experience that was the overwhelming favourite! A great day was had by all who attended and lots of great ideas were collected for their upcoming space projects. Photos of their visit can be found on pages 3 and 4 of Newsletter 7 (wc 13th March).
Are you ready? On Friday 24th March every child is invited to come to school dressed as a teacher and in return every member of staff will dress in school uniform. Our Y6 children will then pair up with a member of staff to become a ‘mini-me’ and ‘Rule the Skool’ for the day. They will lead assemblies, manage playtimes, serve lunch, teach some lessons and hold some meetings among other things. This year we have set up an online giving page rather than asking for cash donations so please visit https://my.rednoseday.com/sponsor/lyppardgrange3238 to sponsor us. Our initial target is £300 and as we have 377 children in school it would be great if we could beat this. Mrs Thorp and Mr Jackson have started the totaliser; please join them in sponsoring the day. The children will be keeping an eye on the total raised and reading your messages of support in assemblies over the next two weeks. Please note that there will be no Congratulations assemblies on Friday 24th March. There will also be no Forest School for our EYFS children on this day.
Invoices for the second half of the Spring term were sent home yesterday and, as always, request that payment is due within 5 days. The end of the current financial year for the local authority is fast approaching and coupled with that, Worcestershire County Council are changing the financial system which we are all using. As this has major implications for us all with processing financial transactions, we would be very grateful if parents/guardians could ensure that payment is made and all remittance slips returned by Monday 6th March at the very latest. Thank you.
