Year 3 Homework – Hand in Date – Wednesday 5th March 2025
This week we have been learning about four different types of poem – Kennings, Clerihews, Limericks and Haikus.
Your homework this week is to write your own poem using one of these styles of poetry.
In the document attached below are some examples of each of the poetry types to show you what they look and sound like.
You will also find the success criteria for each poetry type – please use this to help you to create your poem.
To help you to do this it is a good idea to:
1) Choose a theme for your poem.
2) Write down lots of words connected to your theme.
3) Think about if your poem needs to rhyme, the rhythm it might need and the number of lines and syllables you need to use.
Sounds and Syllables
It is important that your child spends time learning the words given in this section of their homework as these words form part of the Statutory Spelling list for Year 3 and 4 and may well feature in future formal assessments.
They are also really useful words to know how to spell when writing.
Each week we are going to give you a five words from the Year 3/4 Statutory Spelling list, this is a list of spellings that you need to be able to spell accurately by the time you leave Year 4.
